Samsung Galaxy Book 2021 - Full Detailed Review (Updated)

The Samsung Galaxy Book (2021) is the cheapest model in the new Galaxy Books lineup. The Laptop is not much hyped in the market but Samsung has tried to offer what it can in this new Windows Laptop.

Galaxy Book 2021

Build Quality

The Galaxy Book (2021) is made of plastic and is therefore light. The laptop has dimensions of 356.6 mm × 229.1 mm × 15.4 mm and weighs 1.55 Kilograms. The Galaxy Book (2021) has a plain design, no gaming looks. It has a completely plain finish which feels awesome to look at. The device has pretty good flexes on the screen and the keyboard. Though Samsung assures for military-grade durability but we found that it might get quite damaged if force is applied on the hand rest area. The trackpad is pretty big, helpful for page scrolling and browsing. The Galaxy Book (2021) has a full fledged keyboard with the entire numpad. Keys are big and rubberized and made with scissor mechanism to minimize key stroking sounds. Typing on the laptop is a comfort and you will hardly hear any key noise. The key travel length is 1mm. Samsung calls this keyboard as a Pro Keyboard which they have also used on the Galaxy Book Pro and the Galaxy Book Pro 360 models. The Laptop also comes with a Fingerprint Reader embedded with the Power button. The device comes in two colour variants - Mystic Blue and Mystic Silver. My personal favourite was the Mystic Blue.

Display and sound

The Galaxy Book (2021) has a 15.6 inch TFT LCD Full-HD (1920 × 1080 pixels) resolution screen. Samsung displays are awesome in the market but this one is not upto the mark. The LCD screen does not looks good as compared to its peers. High screen glare made it tough to work in bright environments. Working in low light environments was pretty satisfying. Samsung claims that its Galaxy Book series will automatically change to Adobe RGB when working with pictures and videos thus producing perfect colours. This Laptop is not a touch screen one. Bezels are thin on the sides and top. The lower part has a bigger bezel with the Samsung branding.

Sound quality was good in terms of bass and lows. There are 2 x 2W speakers but these were not able to deliver loud sound so don't think of getting a theater like effect with the device. There is Dolby Atmos with the device but no AKG speakers which are given on the other Galaxy Book devices. Multimedia consumption feels good with a headphone and the Dolby Atmos enabled.

Performance

The Galaxy Book (2021) comes in various models with distinct choices. The Laptop can be bought with 11th Gen Intel i7, i5, i3; Intel Pentium Gold or Intel Celeron processors. The Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics is given with i7 and i5 whereas Intel UHD integrated graphics is given with i3, Pentium Gold and Celeron. There is also an option for the NVIDIA GeForce MX450 discrete graphics. RAM options include 4GB / 8GB / 16 GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The device offers upto 1 TB NVMe SSD Storage

The device showed good multitasking capabilities with day-to-day work going in a breeze. I would suggest you not to do heavy tasks such as video editing and high graphics gameplay as the Laptop will not be able to give high performance in terms of graphics.

I/O Ports and Connectivity Options

The Galaxy Book (2021) offers 2 USB Type-C ports, 2 USB 3.2 Type-A ports, an HDMI 1.4, a microSD slot, a Nano Sim slot, Security slot and a 3.5 mm Headphone/mic jack. A thunderbolt 3 port is not given with the Laptop though.

Connectivity options are not compromised. The device is WiFi 6E ready which means you can enjoy more bandwidth and internet speed upto 6 GHz. Other connectivity options include LTE, Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+), 802.11 ax 2×2, and Bluetooth v5.1. There is also a 720p HD webcam with dual array mic.

Battery and Charging

The Galaxy Book (2021) comes with a 54Wh Battery which is quite enough to give you a battery life of more than 6 hrs. There is a 65W USB Type-C charger in the box which is a small brick and so it is easily portable. The Charger can be used to charge native Galaxy phones also.

Other Features

Samsung provides its preinstalled apps which come with entire Galaxy Book series. Samsung apps helps you to easily remain connected with other galaxy devices such as Galaxy Buds and Galaxy phones. You can also use the Galaxy Tab as a second screen with the Laptop. A person who is deeply engrossed in the Galaxy ecosystem will love to work with this Laptop. Samsung also includes connectivity with SmartThings or IoT devices, which means you can easily remain connected with IoT devices and control them with the ease of your Laptop.

Conclusion and Verdict

The Galaxy Book (2021) comes with a handful of features which are quite stunning but also fails to live upto some expectations. You can get more in the same price range but without the Samsung apps. The Laptop is clearly for students and office workers. A gamer would not like to keep his hands on this device. The Galaxy Book will be on sale from 14th May, 2021 with a starting price of $549 (Rs. 40,920)
